Allergies and Intolerances and why you should take BOTH seriously!

Many people I've talked to have found their intolerances have changed to full blown anaphylactic shock. This is the only reason why you need to take your intolerances seriously. You may go into shock without warning and without an Epi-pen handy.

Today's Post concerns Healthy Attitudes...

Yes, we brains do not grow on trees, but instead in pedigrees. Blue blood is the only class who is smartest, wisest, craftiest, whatever'est! Right? Oh yes! We commoners may be able to make more money them, out perform them in IQ test, have more brain cells then they do, have more fruit on our wise trees then they do and so on. But, of course they are the true Best because of Genes. Yep, genes I say. It is genes that determines how racist, sexist, prejudicist, discriminatory and foolish you can be. Only Blue Blood can teach that pedigree matters and everyone else should just suffer with polishing their shoes. Get real! Kate may technically come from a history of working for prejucist people, but it does not make her a commoner. Commoner status should have left England long ago, when the original Blue Bloods died!

As long as we promote Class discrimination and prejudice, we will never be able to unite together as a Country and protect our citizens. This is because we will be too busy infighting and letting the terrorist win! Yes, those terrorist who hate anyone who is not an extremist like them love it when we fight. Its how they find an in road and make us weak.

Discrimination and prejudice also promotes unhealthy attitudes and does negatively impact the heart, as it does produce stress. It makes us angry, resentful, and very negative towards other people. It makes us haughty and very foolish. It makes us very egotistical. And, it is NOT Biblical and never was Biblical! I don't care what "bible" you follow, most religions do not support this foolish, unhealthy behavior. This world has no room for egotistical snobs, prejudice, racism, discrimination and other foolish attitudes. Stop the "oh she's just a commoner" practice! Kate deserves better than that! And yes, the rules of who is and is not a Princess SHOULD change, with marriage! Diana was considered by the world to be a Princess. Princess Diana. Kate will also be considered Princess Kate or Princess Catherine, as Prince William prefers. This whole nonsense of not being blue blood enough is Victorian, Georgian, and historical snobbism. End it now!
Thanks!

sincerely,

Rant Warning! Rated G: The CPI is archaic and doesn't work!

The CPI (Consumer Price Index) is STILL using LAST YEARS data to determine our FUTURE cost of living! I didn't get an increase LAST year either. Why? Same arrogant ignorant reasoning! This is an outdated formula that has never worked! Sure, going gluten free has made my noodle cost go through the roof by 75% more. Huge loss of income unless I switch to white rice. How many "caucausian" Americans do you know who LOVE eating rice everyday? Gas prices have gone up, or haven't they noticed? Food prices will go up in January, and not just for the newly diagnosed with Celiac Disease! And RENT ALWAYS goes up EVERY YEAR! Why? Landlords will ALWAYS give themselves a cost of living increase based on greed and never reality. Can I afford it? No! However, the Government is only one of the main reasons why I started Allergic Vegetarian   website. The Landlord was the other reason. And the third reason?

Fradulent Sites and how to avoid them...

decoremyeyes dot Com is allegedly a Fraudulent site. The Today Show did a feature on it. The owner of the site allegedly harasses customers. It will only be a matter of time before the world police finds this guy and arrest him, I hope. Why allegedly? We all know, that I can be sued for telling the truth. And besides, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.

So, how do i avoid such sites?

GF Dining at its Blandest... :P

Are you Vegan? Vegetarian? Allergic to Onion? And Gluten-Free? Welcome to the greatest feast on the planet of ROAD KILL. Sorry! Has it ever occurred to them that Vegan and Vegetarians are not immuned to food allergies and sensitivities? Of course not! By the way, hospitals and their Mental Health wards tend to believe that all mentally ill with food allergies are chronic liars and can eat meat, chicken and other road kill. The next time I get so treated at a hospital, I'm suing for millions of dollars. And, the only reason why I will lose is because
1) I didn't die,
2) I have mental illness and
3) Every one knows that you can't get a fair trial if you have mental illness and live in my neck of the woods.

They also have a tendency to think that Celiacs have NO taste buds and don't appreciate good food. Or, they think that "Well, its not my problem you are that way. You should just be glad you have something to eat!" or "We don't have time! Its bad enough I even have to accommodate you at all." This is not necessarily the owner speaking, but often the staff. Managers tend to be fools in this area. Many waitresses I've had issues with...especially at one restaurant that got raving D reviews! 40 reviews of 1 star or less.

What can we do about it?

GF and Olive Garden

Olive Garden does NOT work for Celiacs with Onion allergy! They may also not work for Vegetarians. I forgot to ask if their marinara sauce has meat in it, but I don't think it does, based on one of the reviews. Anyone allergic to onion is better off avoiding all tomato sauces anyways. Fortunately, I still can tolerate 'spice' level of onion in most cases.

Soy Controversy

The Claim about Men and Soy:
If Men truly became impotent or infertile from eating soy, then Why does Japan and China have one of the LARGEST populations on Earth? Obviously, their soy was spiked with infertility drugs!

The Claim:
Quote from Mrs. Gurd, [Full article: The soy controversy | Trusted.MD Network http://trusted.md/blog/vreni_gurd/2007/03/24/the_soy_controversy#ixzz11ug9Nw14]

"Like all grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, soybeans have a phytate layer to stop the beans from sprouting unless there is adequate moisture and warmth. The phytate layer in soybeans is much thicker than in other grains and legumes and cannot be eliminated with soaking, sprouting or long slow cooking. This means that soybeans are very difficult to digest, and the phytic acid reduces assimilation of calcium, magnesium copper, iron and zinc."
The Truth:
1) If this were true, then Japan and other Asianic countries would have an extremely high amount of people with osteoporosis because they would NOT get the calcium they needed. They consume more soy per meal then we Westerners consume per day. And, if you are on a typical Scandinavian diet, the Japanese would consume more soy in a typical day, then you would in a typical week.

Teachers and Students who bully those with Allergies...

On Kare11 News, they mentioned how 1 in 4 students with Food allergies are bullied by teachers and students.  Just   Google Search: Teachers bullying students with food allergy and see what you get.

Here's an idea to solve that. How about we take all teachers and students who bully a student who has food allergies, and arrest them in front of their peers, and charge them openly with premeditated murder? I'd especially do this is they tried poisoning the food in their teasing. I would, of course, fire the teacher.

Here's a thought: Blood test for Celiac Disease from Birth

Why not automatically test for Celiac Disease from Birth (Newborn Screening), and if the blood test indicates a good possibility, have the mother and baby both go on a gluten-free diet. Then, see how many children are diagnosed with Autism and see if the numbers go down mysteriously. I know, some think that Dairy may also be a cause. If there is a test that will test for Dairy intolerance that is fairly accurate, then fine, add this to the auto-testing as well.

An excellent article on this subject is Newborn Screening: Birth Right or Something to Fight? By Christopher Wanjek . Mr. Wanjek believes that it is better to screen then have the unfortunate outcome of crippled muscles and brain function.
QUOTE from Article:
Still, one can't help feel for Zachary Wyvill. He was born in April 2003 in an Oakland hospital that didn't test for an organic acid disorder called glutaric acidemia type I.
A second Zachary, Zachary Black, was born shortly later 60 miles away in a hospital that did screen for it. Zachary Black is living a healthy life as a result of a special diet and vitamins. Zachary Wyvill's disease went undetected for several months, and by that time the disease had become irreversible and has since crippled his muscles and brain function.
Testing millions of babies at a great cost? Treating sick children with severe brain and muscle damage at a great cost? Testing for diseases that cannot be cured? These are the profound questions surrounding newborn screening, not whether a pinprick on a baby's heel will induce an engram in its otherwise healthy thetan, as described in Dianetics.
I agree. But, then again, maybe I am biased. I know what it is like to have Developmental Delay disorder. No one wants to marry me. I an considered an 'untouchable' where I live. I have very little friends - and people consider this normal. I hate your 'normal' with a passion. It makes for a very lonely life. I wish this on no one, even my most sworn enemies.

Anaphylactic shock, Food Sensitivities, and a Numbers Game

Anaphylactic Shock and Allergies:

Its my humble opinion, that one who goes into Anaphylactic Shock should probably avoid at all cost the offending food and NOT make exceptions. Surprising as it may seem, some parents do allow their child to have a little peanut treat, but only rarely. This in my view, is dangerous. One teenager died because she kissed her boyfriend. Her boyfriend forgot that he had ate something with peanuts earlier. Life is too valuable to worry about "Oh, my child feels so left out!" I don't care how left out your child feels, allowing suicide is idiotic! The teenagers were not purposefully suicidal. Her boyfriend was usually very careful, as was she. He supported her in her allergy. Depending on what foods cause you to go into shock it may be best to make everything from scratch. I would definately carry a Epi-pen at all times without failure, despite its need for refrigeration. The teen's story, only illustrates who important this is. It is a policy in almost all schools that any medical item that a student requires that is a drug or needle only be available IN the Nurses office. I would argue that in the case of an Epi-Pen, the Epi-Pen should be carried ON the Student at ALL times. Portable lunch bags with ice packs do work. Its fine to have a teacher administer the drug, but sometimes even this isn't fast enough.

Too many symptoms? All in your head?

If you have too many symptoms, too many things "wrong" with you, then you might want to try a Gluten-Free Diet. Most people will be diagnosed with IBS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and other auto-immune diseases before they will ever be diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Why? Most doctors are unaware that Celiac disease must be ruled out FIRST before another diagnosis can be found. This is my opinion that I base on too many people being misdiagnosed WHEN a simple test will for sure tell if someone has Celiac Disease or not. There is no test for IBS. Also, Alessia Fasano, M. D., believes that there may be a connection between Celiac Disease and other autoimmune disorders. Basically, that the other disorders are may come into existence because the patient was never tested for Celiac Disease.

Celiac Disease Insights: Clues to Solving Autoimmunity ", by Alessio Fasano, M.D.  published, by Scientific American Magazine, August 2009, says "Surprisingly, essentially the same trio—an environmental trigger, a genetic susceptibility and a “leaky gut”—seems to underlie other autoimmune disorders as well. This finding raises the possibility that new treatments for CD may also ameliorate other conditions." This hints strongly of a possible connection between Gluten intolerance and autoimmune disorders. Given the symptoms my mother has, I can see how her arthritis may be connected to a gluten intolerance. I strongly believe that my mother needs to go on a Gluten-Free diet. It may actually reverse her diarrhea, but may not reverse her crippling arthritis. Her fingers are bent and her hands hurt her. The problem is convincing her that she actually ingests gluten in foods other than pasta and bread. She thinks the Pasta and bread is the only source of Gluten.  She also has gluten every time she goes to the coffee shop, which is 2 to 3 times a week.

How to Keep meds refrigerated on the Go with little $

I would try the following method:
Put one cooler lunch bag inside of another lunch bag, with ice packets separating the two bags. Also, put ice packets on TOP of the inner bag. Cold travels downwards. To prevent the med from freezing, I would put a thin towel between the med and the ice packet.

Also, aluminum foil acts as a good insulator. It can help keep heat out or in. You can wrap the med/towel/ice packet bundle in the aluminum foil. I am not sure if its shiny side IN or shiny side OUT. I forget. Sorry! I used to wrap my hot pizza in aluminum foil, and then try to eat it on the bus in the short amount of time I had before I got to work in the wee hours of the morning. I found that the pizza stayed very hot, especially when I folded the pizza over itself, with the crust on the outside so that it resembled a Calzone. Sp?

Leaky-Gut Syndrome

Have you been told that you have IBS or Leaky Gut Syndrome, or may be at high risk? What if you are also Diabetic? What if you can't keep road kill down?

One of the top priorities on my plate, is creating a diet that works for people just like you! Why? I have came to realize that my doctor may be right and that I should go gluten free sooner then I was planning on it. He did understand  my reasonings for not going gluten free. There is too many vegetables that I can not eat. However, if one were to go on a low fiber diet, as well as be gluten free, and animal and dairy free, that would limit ones food choices by a huge amount!

Below, I will list all the foods I find that are considered GOOD for a Vegan, gluten-free, low fiber diet. This list will NOT include foods to be avoided, as there is a very complete list on Scott Adams' site, Celiac.com: Unsafe-Gluten-Free-Food-List-Unsafe-Ingredients Copyrighted list by Scott Adams.

Also, for Drugs:
Gluten-Free Drug List

The list I create will include only Whole foods, and not processed foods, nor foods that combine other foods, such as soups. As such, those who want to buy a prepackaged food item from the store, will want to go to the site, whose link is above, and search for the Safe Gluten Free Food List, as it will be more complete then the list I give below.

Oats: Safe or Unsafe?  It has been determined that MOST Celiac's do not have an adverse reaction to Oats as long as it is a Gluten-free Oat. This means that company that produces the Oats do not cross-contaminate with other grains.

I will only give my own testimony on this. I have mild GI to Oats. Oats feel like glue in my stomach, so I avoid Oats.

[NOTE: I am still creating this list, and will add the list to this post as soon as I am finished!]

I am creating the list in an Excel file so that I can alphabetize the list. I hope to get this list posted in the next two weeks. Thank you!

.ps I plan on including ALL whole foods, by category whether it be a Fruit, Vegetable (or fruit used as a vegetable will go in both lists), grain, and so on. This list will also be cross-posted on my recipe blog, but on my recipe blog it will have a slightly different presentation as I will use the list to help others create new recipes. Thanks!

"Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes" book and review

One Caveat: I do not ordinarily write reviews of books, nor do I claim to be very good at it. However, the short of it is BUY THE BOOK! Now if you wish, you can skip the below. If you have any health issues, BUY the book! In his book, there has been some suggestion that for Rheumatoid Arthristis, heart disease, and diabetes can be helped by a Vegan diet. Prostate cancer may even be linked to milk and probably the Dairy protein.  All information from the book is copyrighted by Dr. Barnard, and NOT me. His book is written in an easy to read format and research format.

"Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes" by Dr. Neal Barnard is number one book for combating Diabetes. I have not found a better book because all books I have read have been Pro-Animal. This is the first book I found that was Pro-Research and Pro-Science and Truth behind the research.

I can NOT recommend this book ENOUGH! My own unscientific research on Diabetes has led me to believe that the recommended diet for Diabetics is one big piece of Sika (Finnish). English please! Okay, its a big piece of Dirty Pig. Reason? They NEVER studied a Vegan or a Vegetarian diet. They just arbitrarily came up with some theories, and then wrote diets based on those theories with limited research on alternative diets. I'd even venture to guess that MOST research on Diabeties has been Pro-Meat and Anti-vegan. My research? Okay, so even I did not put anyone on a Vegan Diet.

NO Cinnamon as a preservative please!

I'm VERY allergic! If food companies start using cinnamon as a preservative, I'll die only because I won't have anything left to eat! I can't keep my blood sugars up without carbs. I'm a Vegetarian who needs carbs from some source.

Good Oils vs. Bad Oils

I was going to rewrite this article but some sources mysteriously disappeared from the internet. So, please excuse the rambling.

All Oils listed below is the REFINED version except where noted! The smoking point is in parenthesis.

Extra Light Olive Oil  (460 F)
Brown Rice Oil, refined? (450 F)
Almond Oil (495 F)
Avocado (450 F)
Cold Pressed Avocado/unrefined (500 F)
Grapeseed (485 F)
High Oleic Peanut Oil(450 F)
Safflower (450 F)
Sesame ( 445 F)
High Oleic Sunflower (450 F)
Sunflower expeller pressed (460 F)

First cold-press Olive oil smokes at 325 F. So, I wouldn't put this in a fryer! However, I have fried things in it to get a crispy Faux Chicken in a Wok and had no issues with smoking. I was also using a burner that is about 10,000 BTU.

With all the controversy over Oils, which Oils are really good for you and which are really bad for you? The short of it, Olive Oil and Coconut Oil is good for you, and Canola Oil really is bad. Why? Even Canadian researchers, where Canola Oil is made, has found that Canola depletes Vitamin E levels too a dangerous amount, and has killed laboratory animals. Olive Oil destroys LDL and raised HDL. Coconut Oil actually protects against heart disease.

Resources I've linked to, when writing this article. I highly recommend reading these articles in their entirety, as they provide much more information than what I have done here. And no, I do not believe everything I read and I am NOT a homeopathic!

Allergic to fish? Try Olive Oil!

Some Spanish researchers have found that Olive Oil works almost as good as fish oil in lowering Colon cancer risks, and helps fight Breast Cancer. Because Colon cancer runs heavily in my family (both my father and his grandfather), I use Olive Oil in many things. Researchers suggest that 2 TB daily of EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL is the most helpful.

Diabetes and Kidney Disease

Go Vegan and Save a Kidney! The Kidney you save may well be your own! However, IF you have had heart surgery, then you MUST keep Fish in your diet because you most likely will NOT absorb Vitamin B12 from Synthetic sources and Nutritional Yeast won't give you enough B12.

I am NOT lying! Many people who are Diabetics and stayed TRUE to the PRESCRIBED DIABETIC ASSOCIATION'S DIET became stricken with Kidney Disease! We Vegetarians have been trying to get researchers to tell us the truth about a Vegan diet and what HARM it will do to our bodies. NO ONE would come forward! Finally, one group of researchers did do this. 1/3 control, 1/3 Vegan, 1/3 on the Diabetics Killer diet that almost ALL doctors insist is the ONLY diet to use!

The Results:
Many people on the ONLY DIET TO USE had Kidney damage.
NO ONE on the VEGAN DIET had Kidney damage!

So, I ask, WHY ARE WE STILL INSISTING THAT ROAD KILL IS BETTER FOR DIABETICS!?

Mary Enig vs. The Food Giants

Please read it and the entire article at its original Source.
The Oiling of America: Congress ©Written by Mary G. Enig, PhD and Sally Fallon

UPDATE: The link is no longer a valid link. Even though I disagree with much of the Weston A. Price Foundation, I did find the article to be very well done. For proof of how good a Vegan Diet is, just see any Diabetic that worked with Dr. Neal Barnard and got to use the Vegan diet in his study. The Foundation is NOT Vegan nor is it Vegetarian. The whole point of reading this article is to be aware of how people lie and try to hush the truth about foods. People tend to benefit from research results that favor their original Hypothesis. Liars will always get caught in the end. Good research is really THE Key to Better Healthy Living.

THIS IS A DIRECT QUOTE FROM MARY ENIG'S ARTICLE BECAUSE I FEEL IT SHOULD BE MANDATORY READING! I only post it here to help get the word out. This is NOT the entire article, as I believe its apart of a much larger work. NO copyright infringement is intended, nor implied.

*** THE QUOTED ARTICLE "The Oiling of America" Written by Mary G. Enig, PhD and Sally Fallon ***

The Food Giants Fight Back

Enig's paper sent alarm bells through the industry. In early 1979, she received a visit from S. F. Reipma of the National Association of Margarine Manufacturers. Reipma was visibly annoyed. He explained that both his association and the Institute for Shortening and Edible Oils (ISEO) kept careful watch to prevent articles like Enig's from appearing in the literature. Enig's paper should never have been published, he said. He thought that ISEO was "watching out."

"We left the barn door open," he said, "and the horse got out."

Reipma also challenged Enig's use of the USDA data, claiming that it was in error. He knew it was in error, he said, "because we give it to them."
